Another DIY Hair experiment

Lightening your hair can be extremely easy if you know the right things to do.  Tonight I am going to try something new and completely different.  As it is I love my dark hair however I prefer a few highlights during the summertime.
Anywho the recipe itself only calls for two things that you can find in most of your houses.  All you will need is your regular condition, preferably a moisturizing one to keep you hair hydrated over night, and cinnamon.  Mix these two things together, soak your hair in the paste like substance, cover with a shower cap, and leave on over night.  this will need to be washed out in the morning and can be repeated as many times over the week without doing any damage to your hair.  This is a simple and easy way to lighten your hair up over the course of a little while.

DIY beauty recipes

So today I want to share with you these amazing recipes that could only make your life better!  So these are the things that I tried this weekend that I want to share with you:

  • A all natural face mask
  • Olive Oil Hair Treatment
  • Relaxing Body Scrub
  • Harmless effective Hair lightener (spray on)

The first one is an all natural face mask that uses Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Honey.  This is an amazing mask for girls (or guys) who are in college as it is for stressed out skin.  The honey and nutmeg act to reduce redness and inflammation and the cinnamon gives it a soothing smell.  The Cinnamon and Nutmeg also are great exfoliators.

All you have to do to make this mask for yourself is mix:
2 Tablespoons of Honey
1 Teaspoon of Nutmeg
1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon I prefer to add a little more cinnamon and less nutmeg to make it smell nicer.  So I usually add less than a teaspoon of nutmeg and more than a teaspoon of cinnamon.

Once you have done this mix it all together and it should have the consistency of a paste.  After this apply all over your face avoiding your eyes and lips (Though be warned it will drip onto your lips as it is honey and it will run,Lick it up I promise it tastes just as amazing as it works on your skin) Leave on for 30-45 minutes and then rinse off with warm water and be sure to scrub your face.  The cinnamon and Nutmeg will exfoliate while you wash it off.  And walah you have done it.  When I first tried this my face was less red than when I went into the tub I was amazed to say the least.

The next thing I did in my little weekend of pampering is a little bit of hair treatment.  As shown in one of my Previous Posts I am not always the best at taking care of my hair.  I have however been trying to grow it back out (successfully I may add YAYYY) and this weekend I found a DIY recipe that I truly loved.  It was not said to actually grow hair, however it has been proven to repair split ends, add shine, enhance softness, and promote health, which in turn promotes hair growth. I obviously fell head over heels in love with this.

All you will need is:
2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
A Warm and Damp Towel
(If you have a nice medium sized hand towel those work perfectly for this instance.)

I suggest this when you are about to sit and soak in a nice hot bath or maybe when you know you are going to be in the shower for over 25 minutes ( that would be all of my showers )  All you have to do is take the Olive Oil and run in through your hair, but make sure that you massage it into your scalp as massaging your scalp promotes hair growth.  So make sure you get your ends and your scalp really well.  With 2 tablespoons even though it doesn't seem like a lot I promise you it is.  Now for different hair lengths please refer below:

Shoulder Length or above: 2 Tablespoons
Breast Level to Shoulder: 3-4 Tablespoons depending how close to which end
Below Breast Level: 5 or more Tablespoons I would only go up to 6 though as it should be enough.

Now while you are doing this I would heat up that towel!  Once you have that Olive Oil all through out your hair take that warm towel and wrap your hair up in it for a good 30 minutes.  Take time to shave your legs or do that facial that above.  And when you are done rinse it out with shampoo and conditioner.  Be warned this may take a few rinses, for my hair I go with 2 washes and it does excellently.  And last but not least try to let your hair air dry if you have the time, though if you are in a rush feel free to use a blow dryer ( and heat spray )  Once that is done you wont be able to quit touching your soft hair that's a promise.

Who doesn't love when you know you haven't shaved your legs in a couple days and they feel gross, and then after you shave them that nice soft feeling they have?  I know I love it, but this weekend I found something even better.  After I shaved my legs I applied this wonderful body scrub that smelled absolutely heavenly and when I got out of the tub my legs felt softer than ever.  It felt like I had sun oil on but I didn't they were just so rich with nutrients and so soft so I'm here to share it with you.

What you'll need:
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1 Tablespoon of Honey
1/4 Tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice (mine was of a bottle and it worked fine)
a little bit of Olive Oil

Once you have all the ingredients simply mix them together and apply to your skin and rub it in for a minute or so before rinsing.  And there you will have it soft legs free of dead skin and smoother than ever.

And lastly but most certainly probably my favorite is the all natural hair lightener, which also doesn't just lighten your hair it makes it smell good and shine in the sun.  I recommend putting this in your once you get out into the sun.  It will work just as well inside however the sun will make it react better.

All you will need:
A spray bottle (mine broke so I rubbed it in which works great too)
Conditioner
Warm Water
Lemon Juice

First step is to make sure whatever was in that spray bottle no longer is so make sure you wash it out real well you don't want to accidently spray windex into your hair I cant imagine that is healthy.  Next squeeze about a 1/2 inch of conditioner into the bottom of the spray bottle.  This will act as a detangler and prevent your hair from drying out. Then fill the bottle halfway with warm water and the other half with lemon juice.  Put the top on the bottle shake it up and you are good to go.  HOWEVER, if you would like here are a few other things you can add to make it a Super Lightening Spray.

  • Add a few drops of Hydrogen Peroxide this is very drying however definitely speeds up the lightening process.
  • Add some Cinnamon this gives the mix a better smell and brings out a more golden tone in your hair.  (I added about two teaspoons and it worked wonderfully for me)
  • Use Chamomile Tea instead of water.  When mixed with the other ingredients it tends to speed up the lightening process.
  • A Spoon or Two of Sea Salt this will give you the beachy waves effect and will help to lighten a bit, though be warned it is very drying.

An update....that is over due

So I know I wrote to you guys about mane N tail about four months ago and since then unfortunately I have had to have my hair trimmed so the actual results are unknown, however I can report a number of different facts for you guys.

1. My hair is growing quicker
I can tell from the insanely fast showing of my blonde roots (they are always a lovely surprise) I am super glad my hair is growing quicker.  Is it because of Mane N Tail or is it because all the dead ends are finally gone? No way to actually know, but either way I am thrilled.

2. My hair is so soft to the touch and really shiny
So I might be in love and the two oversized bottles I got in January are still in use to this day haven't run out yet (and I use an insane amount of conditioner so that's a surprise)  It also seems to have made my hair a lot stronger which I am so happy about.

3. And lastly it makes your hair smell good and it doesn't have any damaging effects
I'm going to add in a footnote here that everyone's hair is different so just because it works with me does not mean it WILL work with everyone.  I know some girls have fragile hair while others don't and don't be fooled this is a strong shampoo it is after all a horse shampoo.

Both of our hair is growing to well and it is healthier than ever so thank you Mane N' Tale for that!

Does Main N Tail make your hair grow faster?

QA lot of people want to grow their hair out me in particular I recently got a short bob due to over coloring and I was in need of a dead end trimming so we cut it all off.  And then I kept hearing about Mane N Tail an how it makes your hair grow super fast so I said what the heck why not.
I've been using it for a week now and I have yet to see these amazing results though my hair is softer and shinier so there's always an upside :)

New and Scary!

For those of you that don't know I love to dye my hair...I like changing it up, however that gets to be a problem after a little while If you don't do it healthily.  My problem:

Black(June 2013)  --> 3 processes later Blonde (August 2013)  ---->  Brown (October 2013)  ----> Black with red highlights (November 2013) =  Lift to Red hair and the cutting off of almost all my hair. (Today)
Unfortunately not the best picture
Its really sad because I have been trying to grow my hair back out and now I am at an even further starting point than I was before.  So I am now fashioned with a short bob.  Agreed it is cute and everyone ( I mean everyone no exaggeration) wants my hair cut and color.  If only they knew how quick I would trade it all for my long hair back.  So girls if you're looking to dye your hair take it from me do it the right way.  I have been dying my hair for a long time and I am usually good at keeping my hair healthy however going from light to dark too quick is never good.

So the hot oil treatments, the trying of different shampoos, and the odd remedies begin.  The process to long healthy hair will be a lengthy one and I am willing to do what it takes even if that includes using horse shampoo.  Ive heard it actually works rather well.

Any opinions?

Growing Your Hair Out!!!!!

How many of you have ever tried one of those homemade hair remedies???  Okay so I had one of my friends ask me the other day if I would try out this recipe for her.  The recipe is said to be able to grow your hair out while keeping it completely healthy (I'm a little bit skeptical that it'll work) I've heard it all before.  Now I did my research...some of the ingredients it wants to use I have read that hair dressers do recommend them.  So maybe we'll strike a pot of gold and in the end win!
Over the years I've tried it all.  Does anyone remember that one article on Seventeen Magazine about how to get your hair super shiny?  Well I do and I thought "hey lets try it out!" moral of the story....Don't do it!  The yogurt and egg made my hair stink and I still had stuff in my hair the next day.
Maybe you'll remember this one...Sorry but it is also from Seventeen.  In my defense I was a freshman in high school when I tried this and am regretful to tell you that I did it despite how lame it sounded!  I mean smashing a banana into your hair.  But by all means maybe it will work better for you than it did for me.
Now this recipe unlike the other too aren't for shine or strengthening its for growth.  Last winter I had the same hair color I have now, yet during the summer I decided to go back blonde, why don't ask, but the result was the same I had to cut off my long locks due to damage and split ends.

So I'm hoping this recipe rings true just as much as you guys. So here's what we have to do:
Recipe:
  • one bottle shampoo(your choice)
  • red onion
  • honey
  • rosemary
Cut the onion into small pieces, in half a cup of water boil the rosemary for 5 minutes and add 5 tablespoons of honey.  Put all the ingredients in your shampoo. And its ready to use.

You all know I am a skeptic and this recipe just has a dash of crazy sounding in it, but I'm willing to try anything once so here's the before picture
I use this only because my hair was straight in the picture!
I'll post a progress picture in two weeks and we can compare the results feel free to try it with me!
Any other remedies you'd like me to try?  Comment below!
